Hi all new to the page.

I have just recently bought a 66 plate c 220.

I travel 50-100 miles a day I'm looking at getting it mapped but want to know the pros and cons

1.will it cause my engine stress.
2. Will my mpg increase enough where it is noticeable.
3. I read that it's makes diesel smoke after being Re mapped.

4. This is of subject but can engine carbon cleaning cause damage to you engine.

Properly done professional mapping should not cause issues with an engine and transmission in good condition.

Smoking after mapping is usually a result of over fueling and should not happen.

Are you expecting an increase in mpg after mapping ? A map can bring efficiencies and improve consumption but increased power wil use more fuel so if you regularly use all of the newly gained performance then clearly that will use extra fuel..

Just what is it that you are hoping to achieve?

I mainly want a map for the performance gain but at the same time when I put it into eco I would like it to help with the fuel consumption in weekdays it will be motorway miles but weekend abit more fun. So ideally f possible I'm looking for something to suit that.

I see people doing stage 1,2,3 maps do you no what a c220 can possible have without possible damage to the engine?

Stage 1,2,3 etc are not defined power increases, each mapping company will have different maps producing different results.

Level 3 usually requires some hardware changes such as upgrades to cooling, sometimes different injectors and more.

Talk to MSL, they can discuss your requirements and suggest an appropriate upgraded map. They are very well known and trusted MB tuners.

Only how it is supposed to work. Using decent fuel and regular servicing I have never considered it.

Most companies offering it recommend regular cleaning but how many cars do not undergo this process at all yet still operate without issue?
 
None at all I only bought the car 2 weeks ago from a mercedes dealership.

But I just been seeing alot about it and was seeing if it would help my mpg . But mainly I just want my car to be tip top condition

No, just service it properly using the correct materials.
 
Any remap that increases power or torque will put additional stress on the engine and transmission, unless you never use the extra power. But the increase probably won't be significant in terms of lifespan.

One 'con' not mentioned is that you need to declare a remap for insurance ... some companies won't care, others will increase the premium, and a few won't cover you.

Most manufacturers design engines and transmissions with a fairly large margin in terms of the ability to safely handle power upgrades as they often have different versions of tune in their own line up..

Don’t remap it then ...if you do, goodbye MB warranty and any support for any issues...

Absolutely. Being cynical though they probably just want to make sure they last the warranty period (plus a bit for safety) though :D

Of course if you already have the most powerful version and then remap you are certainly eating into the safety margin to some extent.
 
Know then that MB engine controller WILL set DTC's if it detects out-of-normal operating conditions.
These Error Codes are hidden and can only be retrieved using equipment not available in the service shops.
This since MB will not under any circumstance honor their warranties should the engine have been messed with.

If you do remap or any other tuning, you are on your own.
 
A remap does not stress the engine - it's the driver that does that.
 
If anyone is considering not declaring a remap to their insurer, be in no doubt that if you are involved in a significant accident/claim they WILL check the car for this. My ex-FIL was the chief motor engineer for a UK household name insurer, and that was standard practice even then (15+ years ago). All their mobile engineers had the kit and training to do it.

It's second hand so after weighing it up I think I will wait untill my 1 year warranty has expired then ill get it done.
