I was quoted £300 for a remapping of of w205 diesel. Is this price correct ?
Is it worth it ?

It can be worth it for extra power, torque and/or improved MPG but I believe there are good and bad Re-maps. Maybe post the link to the company in question and hopefully some members will be able to give their opinion?

I’ve always had Quantum tuning maps and never had any issues.

Just beware that any dealer or indi software update will wipe the remap .

For £300 I expect it to be a generic map and not one done on a rolling road set-up with before and after graphs provided, cheap if it is :thumb:

As mentioned above find out if your car has had software updated following dieselgate etc. as that will probably impact things. Might be worth chatting to recognised specialists like MSL in Birmingham or GAD in Burnham on Crouch. Both offer full rolling road mapping services with before and after graphs to demonstrate what you have paid for. Yes they are more expensive but you are paying for a good job done by recognised experts in MB mappings.

'Generic' is a old term applied to older cars that never were subjected to any form of software update or hardware changes that had to be coded in , so a set piece remap file version could be simply uploaded through initial ecu identification .

I've one on a 2003 VW and it's exceptional as it totally flattened a peaky torque delivery that would cause a tiny bit of initial clutch slip , so there we have it a software that cured a hardware issue...

Of course the Author of the remap file is a very good European one from one of the top tuning houses , although I can't assign a single name to it unlike my other two !

In these modern times most cars have to have a modified file developed from the current stock manufacturer software file .

Quite often by a mobile agent or someone with a dyno acting as an agent , the current software is uploaded and sent off in an email to the author , the modified file is emailed back usually taking an hour to be uploaded to the ecu .

These are all tried and tested figures with safe perameters but further development by dyno involving many many runs is too push the envelope to gain absolutely max figures within safe EGT's .

As we have recently learned MSL farms out anything diesel to another company which isn't ideal and proven to be !

For best results go for someone who has a truthful realistic dyno and knowing who the actual author is reassuring , and it can all be had sub £300 !

Might be insurance issues.

True, but it shouldn't be a problem as long as you declare it. There may be a small increase in premium, though.
