30K/16 months since 100K ATF change - so planning on doing a partial change soon (drain from pan plug and refill). Thought I'd check the level at the weekend, when both hot and cold the bottom part of the dip stick seems covered in ATF and the level is somewhere on the first coil of the springy bit (difficult to tell as ATF is nice and clean). Is it really too full or is there a trick to getting a "clean" reading. Maybe I just have to take off a litre and see if it reads more sensibly then.

P.S. Box changes perfectly (when warm - occasional lumpy reverse <-> first change when cold).

Are you running the engine and selecting all gears before reading the stick with the engine still running.?

Yep done full hot and through gears with engine running as well as cold with engine off.
