A friend has offered me his o8 plate CL65 with 60k on the clock for £30k since he is on the trail of another bargain and needs to act fast. The last service on the car earlier in the year cost £5000. Since I would probably keep the car for at least 10 years I am not concerned about resale values or mpg and it would probably be another weekend warrior/summer car with me adding iro 5000 miles per year. Am I likely to be faced with maintenance costs of £5000 each year since even my man logic stretched to its limits probably cant justify these figures? If not can any owner advise whether say £2k pa (on average) would keep a CL running nicely. Apologies for the boring post but any advice really would be appreciated.

that's a fantastic car, and whilst you should expect higher servicing costs with a twin turbo V12, I cant imagine it would that high every time. The cars computer will indicate the level of service required also. Best suggestion would be to call an MB franchise, and ask for a range of prices for A-G services on the CL65, and that should at least give you a worst case scenario idea. For an 08 car you could also reduce service costs by using an independent specialist maybe......good luck

Yes a couple of good ideas there thanks. Any owner out there with actual maintenance costs?

Cl65

That's a great price for a CL65

I am still pondering over a 19000 mile car with an MB dealer and its more than that but has the benefit of two years full MB warranty

If you don't want it I would be interested

Best

Sounds like a bargain! Lovely car, beautiful engine.

If something goes wrong you can be looking at higher than average costs. But that's expected. If you don't drive it much the chances of things going wrong will no doubt decrease. Coil packs are expensive, £1200+fitting (there are 2 of them), and these are known to go wrong. Might be worth asking your friend if these have been done, as they are a ticking time bomb.

I refuse to go to a MB dealership with mine as I honestly do not believe they will be any better than a good independent who is used to dealing with the larger engines. They will charge you a lot more for doing the same thing.

I would thoroughly recommend you have it independently inspected. This usually isn't that much. Not sure where abouts you are in the country, but I know Derrick Wells in Ipswich offer this service.

Hope that helps!

Agree with that, my S55 AMG was a rare surprise to local dealership a few years back. For the more commonly seen models then dealers probably the best, but for the top end, rare models, I agree that a specialist will be at least as good, and most definitely cheaper

Re. service costs the Sandown Group (M-B Basingstoke, M-B Dorchester, M-B Guildford, M-B Hindhead, M-B Poole and M-B Salisbury) give 40% labour discount plus 10% off parts (and MOT for £20) at 6 years old. The parts discount goes up to 15% at 9 years old (and £10 MOTs).

Thanks very much for the responses - some good suggestions there and very much appreciated. Gordon that 19k miler sounds the business pm sent. Have just been to look at the car again since not seen it for some time and have to say it was looking somewhat unloved ( despite the recent £5K service)but being detailed and I will view again.A spectacular car though! I am on the Fylde coast but quite happy to travel distances to the forum specialists for work to be done.
