    Hello everyone,

I have a Mercedes CLC 2009, recently just over a week, every time I switch off the engine and leave the car for a while and come back to it, it starts to smell really badly from the inside. However when I'm driving I put the window down for a while and the smell goes but sometimes I smell it faintly while driving.

The smell is like a rotten smell and it's really bad I've checked everywhere and sniffed every corner (lol) but I can't seem to find anything?

    Any ideas?

That happened to me once in my old pug 106. Culprit was an old prawn sandwich that a mate had stuffed under the seat for a laugh. Made any enemies lately? :D

Could this be your catalytic convertor? I know they can give off the rotten egg smell .

Thanks guys for all your answers! Fortunately I haven't made any enemies so I don't think it'll be a rotten sandwich!

When you mean have I got the car wet, do you mean like from the inside? As I did get it cleaned recently and I think it started to smell maybe 2-3 days afterwards?

So the best guess would be air conditioning/ cat converter?

Probably needs a good airing out as they might of used an aqua vac on the carpets,
or run it with aircon on heater on full and see if that makes a difference,or it might need
an aircon filter and system clean .

Keep your air conditioning on all the time to see if the smell goes way.

My guess is aircon. The smell is produced by a bacterial mat/film that develops on part of the air con system- in particular the condensation drip trap below the condenser/heat exchanger where moisture can accumulate. Check that the drainpipes from this are not blocked or narrowed allowing water to sit. There are fumigation products on the market to sterilise the system http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_224996_langId_-1_categoryId_165632#tab1 but any aircon shop will be able to clean the system for you. You must keep the drainage channels clear tho.
