Hi All,

Going to change my rear brake pads and disks on my 14 plate E250. Does the parking brake need to be wound back before you can remove the disk or do they usually just come off? Also any other tips would be most welcome

Thanks

Is it electric handbrake ?

Foot pedal type ? , which are shoes, in which case , you'll need to move the star wheel to retract the shoes , handbrake off . Otherwise the disc won't budge .

Changed both discs, pads and shoes on my rears recently, discs were a pain to get off as lack of use had corroded the inside badly, a lump hammer and WD40 managed the persuasion.
The shoes were hardly worn but the contact area was very rusty and caused an inefficient parking brake.

It’s also worth checking the the shoe expander unit that is fitted on the end of the handbrake cable isn’t seized up. They often are. A bit of time spent freeing it up while you are there pays dividends
