The rear wear sensor warning came on on one of the W212, a 2010 with just over 30k miles on it.
MOT due this month so we will change the pads discs/rotors, only £100 for everything OEM and "just a quick job".
Easy enough to get the calipers and carriers off, usual pain to get the disc off even after backing the shoes off all the way in.
Then the fun, both rear brake back plates are corroded through at the top allowing stuff (water/dirt) to get into the brake drums (parking brake).
That will explain the noise that could sometimes be heard from both back wheels when rotating.
Brake shoes are severely scored even though the parking brake is for the most not used on this car (by the driver). That will be stones and the like getting inside.
To get the back plate replaced will involve pulling the wheel hub/flange out of the bearing.
This may cause the bearing to split so next thing may be new bearings too.
What a pain in the backside, sure some of these cars are part made out of playdoh.
