:confused:I'm brand new to the club and clueless when it comes to this sort of thing,in fact I'm probobly doing this wrongly as I go along. Anyway, here goes.

I very recently acquired a tasty 2005 C220 CDI sport edition saloon (the one with the AMG kit as standard) Unfortunatly it didn't come with reverse alarm. I've since purchased a Parking Dynamics PD1 Parking Sensor and to fit it I need to remove the rear bumper. Simple, say the instructions. Simple my a***.

I have tried various sources to get laymans advice, none have seemed to match my vehicle.

Ideally I would like workshop manual type instructions. I have tried to source a manual but getting one to cover this model has proved difficult.

All help greatly appreciated.

There should be a strip which runs around the upper part of the bumper- this clips on & can be unclipped with gentle force & blunt plastic blade. The sensors can be mounted into this strip. This is the simplest way of doing it, but of course, sensors can be mounted anywhere, but access may not be so simple...

Thanks for that.

Not too sure if that method would work for this type as the Parking Dynamics PD1 Parking Sensor requires a strip of foil to be fixed across the inside of the bumper.

Hi, welcome to the forum :)

There is a 'how to' section that may help you,
http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=31

there may well be a post in there that details this.
Also try searching for parktronic, or bumper removal.
you may get lucky.
Alternatively can you do it from under the car and save that particular piece of hassle?

good luck!

Remove rear sill from middle of open trunk.
Remove side linings
Remove rear half of splash guard inside the rear wheel arch

Remove rear floor (it gets in the way)

Unbolt the left and right trim screw just forward from the stop lamp assemblies. Between wheel arch and lamp.

Remove all nuts and screws on the inside rear bodywork holding bar in place(not the lamps)

Slide under car and unbolt exhuast mounting from bar

Gently remove bumper bar.

It is a 20 min removal for a professional. I had it done by an apprentice mechanic in not time.

Not sure about the saloon but I have fitted this type of park sensor on my estate.
I put the foil strip under the bumper rub strip which is just a clip on part.
This means that there is no need to remove the bumper at all.

Thanks for that.

It would be great if I could get away with the same deal.
Did you have any bother removing the rub strip?

No problems; as I say mine is an estate and I know they are different.
Mine is a one peice rub strip which is already a bit scraped so I wasnt too worried about damaging it further.
I think the saloon is similar but a three peice rub strip. You should be able to remove it by inserting a plasic wedge and levering it away.
Perhaps someone else could advise as to the correct procedure for a saloon?

You're right , mine has a three section strip. Just to be clear, when you refer to the rub strip, do you mean the whole 2-1/2" wide section, or the 1/2" wide chrome inset?

Sorry to be a pest!!

Im taking bets on whether or not this ends in scratched paint.

Bumper strip removal for fitting parking sensor strip?

Hi Nibbo, or anyone reading this with the knowledge! Can anyone please expand on the best starting point when attempting to remove the bumper strip in question, as i'm afraid of breaking it or scratching it in the process. (C220 Estate). Also, is it the upper strip that you should put the sensor under (just below the boot, or the one that is on the outermost part of the bumper) Any alternative to removing the bumper has to be worth a try when retro fitting the PD1 sensor strip! thanks in advance...
