if its anything like my CLK was then most of the bolts will be in the boot itself behind trim. See my CLK how to here, may be of use:
I cant see E class being much different. Somewhere to start atleast

Mike when you done it any chance of some pics as i need to fit the same to my car also a w210.

Pre facelift have three nuts inthe boot accessed through the rear plastic panel and under the light units, the facelift has bolts at the outside leading edges behind the wheel-arch liners.
When the fastenings are undone the bumper slides backwards and off.

Thanks guys. Looks like I have the easy one (its a 98). Not sure when I will brave the weather and do it, but I will post pics.
