Rear dome light , new cable required

Hi all,
I need to fit a new cable to my rear dome light as the ribbon cable got damaged. Clearly I can't do this without removing the headliner, or I'm hoping at least dropping it slightly. Has anybody else had to do this? Where does the other end of the ribbon cable connect to and would I need to drop the headliner from front to back?
Any advice much appreciated.
