Rear number plate fittings

While cleaning my SL today I took the number plate off and found that of the four fixings only three had screws in and one had a snapped screw in. I've tried to remove the snapped screw but failed miserably. The screws fit into little ally fixings which are fixed into the boot lid, does anyone know whether these ally fittings come out fault or are they like rivnuts and need drilling out? They are aluminium rivnuts available from MB. You can drill them out or cut them from behind if you have enough access.
