Hi guys. Need help.
I just bought s320 cdi 2001. It's driver side rear wheel has allot
Of play and when it's goes into ditch on the road. Rear of the car
Moves. Mechanic advised it's because of that wheel and needs new
Bearing?
Any suggestions
Thx

If the play permits the wheel to move in all directions then assume wheel bearing. Check by applying footbrake and if play vanishes than assume bearing. There should also be some noise when being driven. You may also experience a 'long' brake pedal - especially on first application of the brakes after some cornering.
It is also possible that a worn suspension bush is the cause in which case the play is likely to be confined to movement in a particular plane.

I assume when your mechanic says 'bearing' they mean wheel bearing not suspension bush?

Yes wheel bearing.

Then....jack the car until the wheel is free from the ground, grasp the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock positions and rock it back and forth. Then repeat grasping it at 3 and 9 o'clock positions and repeat. If it moves in both planes assume the bearing is shot. If you can see through to where the brake disk is in the caliper you should see relative movement between the disc and caliper. If when an assistant presses the brake pedal the play vanishes then you can be 99.9% certain that the bearing is at fault.
Any deviation from the above suggests a suspension bush is worn.

Thx for your kind help.

Do you know. Is it possible to reset the service message on the display?
Thx
