rear seat release clk 230

Hi
I am having problems with the rear seat release on my 97 clk 230.
The cables which fix into the release mechanism in the boot dont seem to sit properly hense I cannot lock the rear seats in position and I am worried having passengers in the back seats!! does anyone know a fix for this or know where I can get a guide to solve the problem
My apologies if I havnt given enough information but help would be appreciated

Sounds like the mechanism has opened when you released the seatback but has not returned when you let go of the handle, hense the position of the cable. Locate the mechanism (find the hooking part on the seatback and trace to where it locks) and try to manipulate it - might only need a little lubrication.

I've just bought a 2001 (X reg) CLK230 kompressor and the rear seats sit up right but they dont hook into the locking mechanisms??

I've tried pulling the release handles in the boot and they seem to do little or nothing

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated (Unfortunately no owner manual with the car)
