Rear shocks 2001 W220 cdi

Hi guys.
I showed my car to the local non indi mechanic as knock sound was coming from rear pasanger side when car goes into ditch on the road. He advised both rear shocks are leaking. That's why sound of knock is coming. Secondly. He advised I need to change them as it's A MOT fail.
Please need your advice.

If they genuinely are leaking, or if the mountings are worn sufficiently to knock, then it would fail an MoT.

You should also check the rear subframe mounting bushes for wear and the springs for broken coils. Any one of which could cause a knock and a MoT fail.

How many miles has the car done?

103300 miles. I can see some dry oil on the shocks but nothing fresh.

Give them a good wipe down and check after a couple of days driving. Misting shocks are not a MoT fail.

Are we talking self levelling suspension or just simple shocks here?
