What would be the approx cost to have this replaced (and should they ideally be replaced in pairs or doesn't it matter?)

Pairs only.

They can be difficult to price because if the lower arm bolt is seized (they often are) they are a real ar$e to do. It can take up to an hour or so per side. (roughly)

MB discovered the NSR one was cracked AFTER it had passed MOT at their pet garage! Offered to do it for £170 (inc VAT) including the cost of the MOT. That did not sound too bad to me. Would fitting 2 be twice the cost of 1?

Out of interest, why in pairs?

Opinions welcome

A new spring will always be slightly longer than a 4 year old one and I bet it will snap soon too. They often fail in pairs.

That price is a good one. (if it comes apart ok)

Our cost on 2 x '04 220 CDI

Labour: £270
Springs: £114

So £384 to have both sides done.

Doing both at the same time is recommended as the older spring would suffer from some wear which when thinking about alignement/tracking etc. might be a bad idea.
