I need to change the wheel bearings on my 124 after 216k miles...
Why is it a dealer part? Cant seem to get them from GSF or Euro .

Ring up Mercman or other breakers and see if they have suitable rear hubs, replacing the rear bearings is a bugger.

Dealer prices will be competitive, I doubt many are sold though...

Just got a call from my mate (hes got a proper ramp) and its actually the diff thats gone .... /-:
He's much better than i am and wanted to have a proper investigation before we start taking things apart.
Now is is cheaper to get a 2.hand diff or refurbish the old one ?? Is it possible to get all the sprockets and seals over the counter or is it not worth the hassle ??

I did suspect the diff because the car made a bad grinding noise when i took the foot off the gas and the car was just cruising in idle (around the 25-30 mph) . No noise at acceleration though S-: That made me think that it might actually be the diff /-:
Now im busy sorcing a 2.hand one

Do you know which ratio you need? I assume you have the small case diff?

I don't know the ratio , the only thing I can go by is the number ....
Threepointedparts don't have one at the mo )-:

Your ratio is 3.46, and what looks like a medium case diff. I might have one of those.

Can you grab a pic from the rear of the diff? I want to make sure which size case you have.

Has your's lost drive, or just very nasty noises?

It seems to have disintegrated ....
No drive , made a huge noise and then it was gone.....
The pictures are actually from the original one that I took out a few years back and kept in my shed at the allotment (-:
The one that's in and gone bust now is one I got from threepointedparts at the time.
So the number and pics are all from the original diff. Will send a better pic later
