Hi guys,

My rear screen on my 190E 2.5-16 is cracked.

I can get this replaced under my insurance policy by a company called national windscreens. ok, i have heard horror stories about these companies and to be honest i do not trust them with doing the job.

I called their local branch and asked wether or not the replacement would be genuine, she said no!!!

my question is can i get Mercedes to do this and insurance pay for it???

Lets not forget it has this metal trim that goes around the edges too and i should think they would change the seal too...would this be the case?

Any advice much appreciated...

Thanks...

The metal trim rarely survives the process and unless treated with extreme care will look bodged when re-fitted.

I have a crack in my windscreen and I was contemplating getting my stealership to liase with my insurer (Norwich Union) to have it replaced, Norwich Union also insure the stealership fleet so they might look kindly upon this request...

Where are you, if you are in the Surrey area i know of a windscreen Co that do classic Mercedes screens, they are very good.

You can go where you like to get it replaced - Mercedes will only use a 3rd party anyway - so find out who they are and use them - that's what I did.

MB Walton use Old School Windscreen Services - glass had to be ordered from germany mind you.

I've used old school windscreens on my previous W202 - got them to order a proper MB screen to ensure quality and the correct tint (gave them the VIN). They accommodated my needs and arranged to perform the job on a weekend morning at my home. Had a chat with them and gave them cups of tea - a great job and no heartache - would recommend them if you are local :)

Depends on your insurance company - with most of them they tend to make a limited/fixed contribution of i.e. £225, for example, towards the replacement windscreen if using a non apprived fitter/supplier i.e. Stealership (even though most Stealerships sub contract the work out anyway to the same sub contractor (s) that the Insurance Company use  )

They are the people i used to have the front and rear screens on my 560 SEC done, they did a great job.
