Early 80's Recaro porn there, great back in the day, but not in production for a long time, so maybe performance wasn't the best!

I had a pair of these in the Eighties when I was a certified Recaro junkie. IMHO, brilliant idea, poorly executed

The speakers were incredibly directional and the sound changed dramatically as your head moved forward & back. It sounded good with your head pressed against the headrest but that isn't the way most people sit

Retrofit the headrest with a good 3" dome midrange unit and I think you'd be on to something

I had some too, fitted in a Triumph Stag I had a few years back. They were a bit tinny sounding IIRC, plus they drowned out the V8 rumble

I have two sets of those - one fitted in my AMG Widebody DOHC SEC and the other set to be fitted yet.

Great idea but agree, looks alot better than it sounds !

I think a pair of these might do the trick

DLS 3" Dome midrange with grille
Ultimate Iridium 3 - 3 inch midrange speaker

On-axis the treble roll-off will be minimal and I think they'd work pretty well as a full-range speaker. They are also enclosed so they don't radiate to the rear
