Hi all,

Forgive me for posting on this subject as there are quite a few threads on this question or one similar to it, but most are from a few years ago and none quite answer the question.

I would like to update the Navi map in my C220 CDI 2011 Comand headunit, can anyone reccommend a trustworthy supplier of SD card updates, and any advice if you've done it yourself? Or can you tell me what I'm likely to pay if I visit a Mercedes dealer? This might be an option as I'd like the 'current fuel usage' bar graph to be fixed, as it only shows up to 40mpg when yesterday I got 64 on a run!

I'm in West Yorkshire if anyone can recommend anywhere local

Thanks

I bought the latest maps from this guy last year. He seems genuine and was very helpful. The SD card isn't the expensive part, it's the licence to use it - both of which he supplies. It's easy to load.

ooh thanks TC350, I did see this seller and thought from the reviews it might be an option.

is it a case of: you are sent the SD card and PIN via post, then carry out the installation with the engine running, and it takes an hour or so to upload to the system? Did everything work smoothly? And does the appearance / function of the navigation function change at all?

Thanks in advance!

If your W204 is the face-lift model, then it will have COMAND NTG4.5 (assuming it does not have Audio20).

Loading the maps from a USB drive will be faster than loading it from an SD-Card, though ultimately either will work. And, if you have access to good Internet connection, then you can download the maps yourself from MB (the download is free), but be warned it's 40+ gb in size.

Once the upload starts, you can either leave the car with the engine running (not ideal), or have it connected to a trickle charger, or just drive the car normally while the maps are being uploaded (though you will obviously not be able to use the satnav while driving). Don't worry if you've arrived at your destination before the maps upload is finished, when you next drive the car, the upload will continue automatically from where it last stopped, until completed.

One other thing to note is that ideally you'll also update the navigation software (firmware upgrade), but this requires STAR and can therefore only be done by a dealer or an independent specialist. The latter will also be able to update your COMAND unit from Gen 1 to Gen 2 (grey/red instead of brown).

thanks Mark, I'll bear that in mind. A firmware upgrade would be interesting, but the headunit gets SO hot even running V1 that I don't know how it would manage anything more!

You say idling the car isn't ideal, do they overheat or something? I mean obviously idling for long lengths of time isn't good for the car, or the environment and costs money, but apart from that is there a reason not to leave it idling for an hour?

Can't remember the details, but pretty sure that you cannot update to the latest maps if your firmware is not up to date

Sorry I've never managed to get it fixed, I asked someone I know who works at a Merc dealer and they said it couldn't be fixed, although I have seen people elsewhere say it's possible at a dealer....
