Tried this stuff Tim?

It really does help dissolve the waste and clear the system.
Yes Ant, I’ve tried that and many other chemicals. All with negligible success.

The problem with our en-suite shower is that it’s a walk in version so very little fall from the fast-flow outlet to the vertical drain and therefore not much of a water flow to keep things clear. That lack of fall also means that chemicals can’t sit there and do their stuff.

Ordered parts from CA, USA at 5 p.m. on Friday and they are promised to arrive by 6 p.m. tomorrow ... 3 days from the US West Coast when it takes 4-6 days to get anything from the UK these days.

Normally takes longer than that to clear customs on arrival in the UK?!

The traps tend to block up quickly, and can be a bigger to do.

Are you going to pay for her perfume? Costalot chanel

Yes, I paid the custom charges up front ....

Interesting - I've not heard of this as an option before! Presumably you pay the VAT & import duty (plus the normal 'handling fee') to the courier company, who pass that on to HMRC as soon as it arrives in the UK?

I had the choice when ordering to either pay the French import costs at the point of receipt or include it in the bill.

It was slightly cheaper to do the first. In my experience, paying at the point of receipt incurs a fee for the courrier - in this case FedEx - and I have yet to see if I shall still have to pay them.

I don't see why - the seller has charged me for that, and will pay French customs, but it's an opportunity for them. If I asked, I shall ask what the payment is for. Will post again if this happens.

The 'States are clearly set up for shipping to the EU ..... even has French descriptions ..... but the cost of shipping etc is more than double the cost of the purchases. This is partially offset by stuff being much cheaper in the 'States in the first place.

After getting scammed yesterday (*sigh*) but then working out how to get my money back (yey!) I thought I'd buy a Karcher K5 from Screwfix. £270 after cashback.

I could have those exact same parts delivered (UK) and taxes paid for £44.28 ETA 26/05/21 or £68.54 ETA 17/05/21 if I ordered today.
Who are you buying from? (Link to website?)

www.rockauto.com. Recommended by friends who own the classic car garage in town.

Couldn't find the parts in the UK with speedy delivery - some were giving June ..... presumably after ordering from the US? Spoke with Tom Falconer at Claremont Corvette (what he doesn't know about Corvettes isn't worth knowing) and he didn't have one in stock, + he's on hols this week.

Speed is important on this occasion .... car is on a friend's drive and rain on the way later this week.

For future reference, where would you have sourced these, please?

That website is very interesting. Thanks for the tip. 👍

You're very welcome.

At first glance most of the stuff seems too cheap to be any good but they do ranges for most items and, having checked out a couple of the pumps elsewhere, their costs were very competitive and my garage friends say they are very efficient and speedy + they have not yet had any issues with the quality of their products.

...... unlike the UK specialist supplying parts for a friend's Dino ..... had to send stuff back twice as they had supplied the wrong combination of parts (for ignition system) ... and not at all cheap.

... and, yes, it's muggins here who is asked to ring up and complain!

Fascinating!

The electronics are very interesting.
Especially what some of these companies are doing with laser and lighting for virus detection.

What I found really interesting though was speaking to one of the persons from a large bank and asking why they wanted this complex door access control system.

He summed it up that if they put procedures in place and keys, someone on the floor will find a way around this, wether it be throwing a bunch of keys acoss the room to a workmate or holding a door open with their foot they will try and make their job "easier".
They simply don't take into account the procedures are in place to keep them as safe and secure as possible.

Once explained I understood why they want a complex door interlock system.

Rock Auto!
The prices for the parts were pennies apart. It's the shipping to France that is pricier than to UK but without knowing your order date hard to tell if you were paying for a faster service. Your order IIRC was from two different warehouses. If product choice isn't critical, sourcing from just one warehouse cuts carriage costs (look for the truck icon).

The advice given for Rock Auto is to avoid buying their cheapest and getting specialist/forum advice on who makes the best specific part aids selection. And watch their returns/warranty policy. Returning parts from outwith the USA is a bit of a grey area as return carriage not covered when they base the shipping cost on a USA sourced price greater than the value of the goods.

Other than that, they offer a great service and their prices when I compare what MB charge to theirs beggars belief.

Thanks, B, yes I did pay a little extra (about €5 iirc) for delivery by today rather than the standard date of the 17th.

Interestingly, I have been watching online videos about how to change the fuel pump and the 3 I have seen all got their replacement parts from Rock Auto.

Emma mattress, pillows, duvet & mattress protector and 4 new NON run flat tyres & can of tyre repair gunk. 🥳
