Greetings!

I'm looking for an honest MB body specialist (with experience and a solid reputation) who can help with the following needed on a W115 and W123 Classic Mercedes:

1) Windscreen seals
2) Minor rust on the wheel arches
3) Rear screen lower corner rust
4) Minor paint bubbling on the bonnet and boot
5) Potential rust on the bottom of the doors

As you can see, its a bit less than a full respray. 30 odd miles in any direction from London Bridge is fine in terms of distance. I'll travel more for the right workshop.

Thanks in advance lads!

Have a word with Andy from Andy’s Autobarn based in Ashford near Heathrow.

Welcome to Andy's Autobarn | Car body repairs SW London

They’ve got a lot of experience with MB bodywork and restorations. Andy worked for MB in their bodyshops back in the day and has a lot of useful skills/knowledge in repairing these older models.

I'll ask my mate who it was that repaired his C123 bodywork (two episodes of quite bad damage - last one was very close to a write off).
They seem to have made a good job of it. N.E. London / Essex border.

If your 123 doors are too far gone, I've got a couple of good spares.

Isn't Messenger great? He used this Company in Barkingside. The Bodyshop Uk | Reputable car repairs company based in Ilford, Essex

Many thanks! It appears that Andy has worked on several classic Mercedes cars rather regularly. I'll give both a call to ask after their rates.

Cheers!

Try E&A in Wembley, work on many classic Porsche’s and have seen a few Merc in the workshop as well. Ask for Chris

Visited Andys Autobarn today. Very nice chap who clearly has alot of love for the more humble Classic Mercedes models. Even has a picture of a W114 250SE on his wall.

Only downside, he's not cheap at all. Quoted me 30 hours just for my sunroof repair (it's seized) and another 50 for the front and rear seals, headliner and bodywork on the rear left quarter panel.

In your experience, would I be able to do better for a comparable level of skill/ experience?

45 per hour. Seems to know his way around a Classic Mercedes and has a soft corner for the W115 and W123s.

Have an appointment booked for the end of the month. Will report back soon after.

Any joy with a bodyshop?

IIRC, the OP had his car into Andy’s Autobarn and posted a positive review of the work completed :thumb:

Pictures from post #72 onwards

I have nothing negative to share about Tony Fawkes - I visited them and the guys were very polite and attentive.

In the end, I went with Andy's Autobarn because he displayed genuine fondness specifically for the W123/ W115 chassis cars. (I believe he has since purchased and restored a W115 for himself after finishing my car). This is why I'll be taking my W123 300D to him this summer.

Between Holford Motors for mechanical and Andy's for bodywork, I've found the perfect ex- Mercedes garage duo for Classic Benz cars.

Thanks for the info. Looks like they've done a really good job :)

I’ve heard Chas Wells in Sevenoaks has great experience with the older MBs.
