Mercedes want to charge too much to renew discs & pads on my C250 Estate.
What would be the best brand to buy that's equal to or above original spec ?
Any advice appreciated.

Mercedes are often competitive on brake parts. Try asking for a discount, calling a few different main dealer parts counters, or contacting one of the main dealers who sell through eBay (eg Newcastle or Edinburgh).

Most brake parts will be OK, as long as it's a brand name you've heard of from a reputable source, however personally I would stick to Brembo if going aftermarket - they're probably the safest aftermarket bet in my humble opinion.

how much is too much?

Might be cheaper to get an indie to fit MB OEM parts...if they are actually needed...

Definitely not Pagid as the OE decision was bought out and cheaped out by Euro Car Parts .

Additional Repair items:
  • Replace Front Discs + Pads £458.64
  • Replace Front Pads £197.74
  • Replace Front Wiper Blades £57.19
  • Replace Rear Discs + Pads £450.66
  • Replace Rear Pads £212.15

If you want to go aftermarket i've used MTec discs on a number of fairly quick cars and they were good, i stay away from cross drilled. In my experience i've found the pads made the most difference.

Never had an issue with Brembo parts myself

those prices for pads and discs seem reasonable to me, especially with a few hours labour

if I can’t afford those I cant afford to run a car.

that said, a MB dealer labour rate will ratchet the cost up so use a cheaper indie to fit MB OEM parts,,,

assuming they do need replacing and the MB dealer isn’t trying it on!

Do they even need changing ? MB service depts like to upsell brake parts it’s easy money .
My E class at 40k they wanted to change the discs , at 100k I did them myself , so good thing I checked and didn’t let them do it

£909.30 to replace discs & pads all round on a C250 reasonable? I think that is extortionate!

Another recommendation for Brembo discs and pads. Mintex, Ferodo, TWR and ATE are also decent brands.
Look for ceramic pads if you want low dust.

OP, don't go to Mercedes for run of the mill stuff on a basic car. Buying the brake parts directly from MB (as others have said here) can be surprisingly cost effective....getting Mercedes Benz to fit them ? less so.

Replacing front discs and pads is a two hour job on a C250 that can be done by any competent garage. rears a little more tricky to judge because of internal parking brake shoes can sometimes hang up on worn drums and are worth replacing/setting up at the same time which is more time = more cost.

How much were you quoted ?

The mind boggles m8. Hes obviously either minted or clueless.

who said both axles needed doing???

if they do, that’s what 3-5 hours (Estimated above) labour at £150 per hour?

Do you bitch at £750 -£1000 for a set of 4 tyres?

I note the OP hasn’t stated what he feels was “too expensive” - that could be anything from £250 to the £900 you quoted..and which is parts and labour..5 hours at £150 per hour...

,I find it extremely unlikely that all 4 discs need replacing

Totally uncalled for!

No one said both axles needed doing, may not need doing at all for that matter! My point was that I thought the price was extortionate oppose to being reasonable, just a difference of opinion! Even per axle it is expensive for a run of the mill job to be carried out.

To answer your question, no I don't bitch at £750-£1000 for a set of 4 tyres, I just don't pay that much! Come to think of it I don't bitch at all ;)

You quoted for both axles...not me...

You will have read that, twice, I said it may be the brakes don’t need replacing yet and the MB is trying it on..

Let’s agree to differ, at least until we know what the OP seems too expensive
