I think there is going to be another round of redundancies at my workplace and I will be among the casualties this time round. It's been a long time (probably 10 years) since I have written a cv, I definitely need some help in polishing and updating my cv. Any suggestion as to where I may find some templates/guidelines for a modern and eye catching cv?

Besides, Computing and Computer Weekly, where else should I look for potential jobs and recruitment agencies to join? Got to arm myself and find myself a job asap especially my other half is currently unemployed and the little one starting school in Sept.

TIA.

I am sorry to hear that but look at the bright side swl, you still don't know whether you are one of the casualties yet.
Anyway, here are some i can think off at this moment.
http://www.s1jobs.com/ (if you looking at Scotland)
http://www.topjobs.co.uk/net/HomePage.aspx
http://www.monster.co.uk/
Depending on which one
http://www.goldjobs.co.uk/overview/default.asp (for top mgmtr post) or

Good luck

Good luck with the recruitment agencies! I have regular contact with several IT recruitment places and I've not had a single interview in about 9 months of unemployment since being made redundant by my previous employer! The only decent response I've had is from a position I saw advertised in a jobs newspaper, interview should been in a week or so, still awaiting confirmation of the date/time, wish me luck for that one! ;)

MyFirstMerc (Eric) - Thanks for the urls. Had a look at them. Saw some possibilities. However, I am a bit baffled by something I read in Monster. I picked one up randomly to illustrate the point.

"...It would be preferable that CVs are submitted in Word format
MN HA0618 D2705 PTBR6233"

Is "MN HA0618 D2705 PTBR6233" an internal job reference number or is it a special type of Word formatting?

Shude - Good luck with the interview. Stranger things have happened. Like my ex-manager said, "the number jobs that I applied for that I thought most suitable came to nothing; the jobs that I thought I don't stand a chance, I got the offers."

shude,

I am surprised mate ,quite a few big banks in london are recruiting at the moment. I have been searchinfg for a someone for a few weeks and have totally the wrong or the weirdest candidates going!

Don't panic, I'm not an agency but I'm recruiting software testers at the moment.
The place I work for is a software company based in Guildford and these are permanent positions.

If anyone's interested, I'll let you have the full job spec.

Adam

Good luck for the interview, Shude. I know how you feel because my wife have been unemployed for almost 1 year before something came along. Chin up and am sure things will work out fine for you. I agree with you about recruitment agencies. They generally only entertain those they think have a chance to get employ by their client so it kinda depends on your luck at that moment whether the agency have something that suited you. I heard some agencies have the habit to 'collect' CVs (and some to the extent advertise 'ghost' jobs only to get CVs) so that they can boast their have XXX number of potential candidates to their clients.

Anyway, no harm trying imho. SWL, alternatively you can try the companies (that you fancied or think you have the skills to offer) web site directly. Nowadays, big organisation would have a recruitment section to employ directly without going through the recruitment agencies. My friend headed the HR department for a well known mobile phone maker company in Asia Pacific region told me that she will keep those CVs they received and try to match any thing they have eventhough sometimes they have not advertise on their web site under the recruitment section. I know BTSyntegra (http://www.btsyntegra.com/), Microsoft (ok guys or gals no flame please...), Accenture (http://careers3.accenture.com/ATS/UK/SearchAndApply/Experienced+hire+vacancies.htm) , oh btw the big three/four consulting (err..whatever they are now) firms are hiring... IT jobs is picking up depending which type of skills you have.
Good luck swl.
