Reconditioning gearbox and torque converter

I used to these for a living years ago and pretty much everything wearable is replaced. All clutch plates, brake bands actuators modulators etc are replaced. The only parts really which are reused are the outer casings valve block bodys and internal shafts ( if they are undamaged, obviously.) Basically if done by someone that knows what they are doing thay are as good as new.

Mine was done at Autobox in Stoke-on-Trent about 9 months ago, my 200k + W203 220 Cdi box was slipping and flarirng, Steve took the box out, stripped it and had a good look first, mine needed a new shaft, TC, the inside of the bell housing refacing, all done within a few weeks as I was not in a rush for the car. At several occasions during the rebuild I called in to have a look at what was going on in there... what an education?

Anyway, it is as good as new now, it's never missed a heartbeat, and, I've towing a 90% matched caravan for quite a few miles with it all over hill and dale....

So, if your car is worth the cost, get it done...

Thanks for the info. My car suddenly lost drive on thursday. :wallbash:

My car is on 220k, and has had four ATF changes in that time.

Car has been recovered to my mechanic ( Andy@WrightTech).

Torque converter has gone, so it's getting reconditioned. Also I have been advised to get the gearbox reconditioned at the same time since everything is out.

Should be done by the end of next week, and I will report back then.

airportstar, what year is your 320 CDi and has it had any re-mapping done?

2003. No mods, no remap, 100% standard the same as the day it came from the factory.
