Hi

Can anyone recommend any decent specialists around the LEEDS area, apart from the main dealers, e.g. derwent mercedes etc.

Thanks

Jay

Merc care - and a happy owner.

Well, I have just had my car in for the knocking noise on the front suspension to Merc-Care.

Initially they believed it was the front antiroll bar links which were worn. They fitted these in about an hour but when I drove away the knocking was still there. I tunred around and went back. One of the mechanics took it for a spin, only to notice it was quite bad. They put it straight back on the ramp to diagnose. Afte another 1.5 hours they gave me the keys back, all done !! I had already paid for the roll bar links as I drove away. They had to replace a couple of bushes at the front, although not sure exactly which ones. Anyway, when I asked how much, they said, it was at no extra cost. When I drove away this time, the problem had gone and the whole front of the car seemed much more responsive. Now that's what I call very good service, it's a shame the main dealers don't always take a leaf out of this book. They were quite happy to look at the car straightaway and the service was very friendly etc..

Just booked it in for a service with them !!

Glad to hear it, I told you they were good.
When my window regulator went the local stealer (Derwents) wanted 30 mins labour charges just to diagnose the fault. These people looked at it, knew what it was and one guy did it in his dinner hour. Charged me £30 plus parts.

Merc Care have just fitted valve guide seals to my 190E, following excellent diagnosis by mechanic (Peter) who was pleasant and really seemed to know his stuff. Also sold me a tyre (Continental) for £60 and swapped around the others, without charge.
Labour rate is currently £38 ph. Good people to deal with!

wonder if they do exhaust and grille mods fitting?

When the warranty on mine runs out i will def use them. Good value service and customer friendly.

Derwents should get the "stealer of the year award" and that is LITERALLY speaking.

Living in the Hull area I couldn't find any independants ( tell me if you know ). I took mine to Merc Care and explained as I was from out of town could I be first in the garage. Nothing was to much trouble. They diagnosed a faulty Diesel fuel pump. As these are a hefty price they offered to fit one I supplied or they would source one for me and fit that. I booked the car in for the following week and made a few calls to the Main dealers. The price for the pump was exactly the same + vat. I also had some extra work done that I pointed out to them, not them touting for business. The mechanic who worked my car took me over the vehicle and showed me what he had done and answered other questions about little jobs I could do my self, telling me the best way to go about it. I felt confident I wasn’t being ripped off. The only down side was it’s a round journey of 120 miles, but I coincided it with a trip to Leeds shopping. ( so maybe I didn’t save anything after all )

Very useful thread. I was telling the wife a few days ago, that as my car is now out of warranty I could use Merc Care as they are only two minutes from where I live, but I didn't know if they were any good or not.

Glad to hear they seem to be OK. :)

Do Not Use This Dealer !!!! Mercare W.yorks

A few months back I took my car to have a gearbox oil change, the woman i spoke to was very polite and friendly. It was agreed that providing I supplied the oil they would be able to do the job that day. I drove to Pudsey, Leeds from York and was told that they would need the car for around an hour and either I was to wait or come back. Deciding to go I returned approximately 1 hour later to be told the car wasn't ready. 3 hours later I was still waiting! Finally I was told that my car was ready and that there had been a problem with the oil filter I supplied and that another was required. Happy that the wait was over and I could go home I set off to encounter problems with the car misfiring and loosing power (EM light came on). Stopping on the A64 I checked to see if anything was obviously wrong with the engine and could find nothing. Not happy I phoned Merc-care and they told me to return the car the following day. The next day I returned (limped) and was told that all my ignition leads needed changing at a cost of £250 + however the two leads that were causing the misfired they replaced and I was charged £90+. Same again on my return home the car started to misfire (EM Light on) so I decided to visit my local stealer to see what they though of the problem. Similar to Merc-care they told me that the leads would need changing and that it was extremely odd that so many leads would malfunction at the same time unless they had been removed previously incorrectly (ie) if the leads had been pulled using the thin wire. Left with no option I told them to replace all the leads less 2 that Merc-care had fitted 10 minutes later the engineer asked me to come through to the workshop to view the leads. It was in his opinion that only one lead had been changed and explained why (ie) there was 11 dirty leads and 1 bright shiny lead (obvious). Furious I telephoned Merc-care and spoke to the mechanic who told me that he had made a mistake and replaced the lead with the original old lead ( strange mistake ). However after 3 weeks the garage they did re-imburse £35 of the £90 but the experience has been one to remember.

Take your car there at your peril

Hi all, i will also add a negative comment for merc-care. My family has used them for approximately the last 5 years or so, maybe longer i'm not sure. Recently we were charged £100 for a new electric aeriel. When the aeriel was raised i noticed that it had a kink in exactly the same place although it had a shiny new plastic gromit/cap where the aeriel comes through the rear wing. We took the car back to merc care who laughed it off and said " oh we probably never charged you for it anyway! ", they did charge us £100 and they blatently tried to make it look like they had fitted a new aeriel. We have now stopped using merc care. Also they never apologised at any point which i think anybody would have done if they had in fact made a mistake!

Luke,

Thanks for your thread, I just wonder how many others have been ripped off. there was one other story which i didn't include with my last thread. whilst I was waiting there was another elderly gentleman waiting to have his car checked over regarding a thumping noise near his front offside wheel area. The mechanic who had done the dodgy work on mine, checked it over stating that all was well. The gentleman not happy asked if he could have a look (he wears glasses) The man noticed that one of his coils springs had snapped in half! Can you imagine what would have happed if he'd drove off and had to brake suddenly? The thought doesn't bear thinking. This garage is clearly taking people for a mug and will get away with it until someone gets hurt. Luckily thats not me because I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!!!! best regards xixal

It sounds like something dodgy was going on with jnortons car he returned with the same knocking that he had before sounds like something was either left loose from the previous repair or a glaring defect missed in the first place. Dont these people roadtest the car after carring out safety related repairs! or do they leave it up to the customer to find out for himself!!

try delaceys {huddersfield} actually brighouse, service managers good on mb/bmws will give free advise,..

Another vote here for Scotts Auto Tec....
I took my CLK there for new brakepipes (front to rear (both sides) and front O/S).
Quoted me £245 inc Vat
When i picked the car up he said that it was easier than he quoted and its was £150 in Vat !
Bonus you don't get that kind of service everyday.
He quoted me on an A Service for the CLK which was very reasonable !

I WILL be going back again.

Mark

I will give them a try, as my A-Class diesel auto needs a 'C' service in 1K miles (and juddering looking at). Was going to try Merc Care in Pudsey but this place is nearer to me.
