I didnt write that an agency was good because they dont submit CV's without approval. What part of what I wrote was not true?

And, it is a statement of fact that smaller niche agencies may not be on preferred supplier lists for large corporates (I did not write would not be, I wrote may not be).

Howard, I wasnt looking for an arguement.

What I was stating is that it's not right to assume that an agency is good because they follow best practice and legislation. It's fairer to assume that an agency is poor and of ill repute for not following this procedure.

Perhaps I shouldn't have said that I disagree smaller agencies "May not be on PSL's", what I should have said it that this is not always the case. Too many smaller agencies are written off due to their size when they infact deliver in ways that larger agencies can't/wont. My business is a very small Rec2Rec specialist but I'm on the PSL of quite a few UK & National agencies for the recruitment of their staff.

Once again, I apologise if it appeared that I was having a go, I was purely giving another opinion from a recruiters point of view. No offense was meant!

With respect, whilst it will give you a list of recruitment firms to call, I wouldn't rely on REC membership necessarily offering you a cast-iron guarantee of professionalism. Anyone can join the REC if they are willing to pay the subs and stick to a very loose conduct of practice. Keep your options open and register with as many as you can.....you'll know, once you've met the consultants, who will be truly working hard on your behalf.....after all, it's a people business and one that could do with returning back to being regulated ;)

That being said, I think he needs a place to start. This is a minefield, I should know, I run a company that specialises in recruiting Associates and Headhunters for executive search firms.
This is always going to be a numbers game and there's never any guarantee that you will stumble upon the 'agency' that's going to show you the way to your next perfect job.
In the end, a level of persistence, trawling the net and asking everyone you speak to for a referral, will eventually lead you to a range of options, hopefully, including the one that will open the right door for you.

There's some irony, somewhere in there, of a rec2rec recommending the REC as they kept you out for years :D

You are confusing Rec to Rec with Search to Search and sounds like you have a issue with suppliers of human capital to the recruitment industry, have you had a bad experience then?

Apologies to the OP as this is going a little OT.

I started writing a whole diatribe of 'bad experiences' in response but deleted it. I left the industry in 1997 after the best part of 25 years so it's hardly worth me getting involved in a debate about something that's likely to cause offence to people still involved in it.
;)

Sorry, above should have said 2007, not 1997.....senior moment :)

No apologies needed - I'm quite interested in hearing about the "environment"!

Need to call this agency soon, got a few names/numbers :)
