Evening all. So my s320 cdi 2005 has a glitch I can't work out ( no surprise) this message pops up not all the time engine fan comes on. Car looses power and cuts out. 're starts and all is well thing is it's not guaranteed to do this every day.
I checked the OBC on the dash 12.6v engine off 14.1 to 14.2 engine running.
Battery was replaced last year by the previous owner oem MB. The alternator is seemingly charging the battery.
The car had a issue literally the day after I purchased it the boot lock wasn't engaging and through this message up. Boot lock replaced by indi. Message gone. Now it's back with then strange fan on full pelt within 10 seconds of starting after being left over night.
The indi allegedly did a star report and test which they charged me £90 for but didn't have the print out and don't give them out anymore!
Before I set the car on fire.. any ideas I was going to call the AA tomorrow to see if their generic code reader could shed some light on the issue..
Anyone come across anything similar? Just the voltages according to the display are all where they should be.
I've been browsing the internet all you get is conflicting fixes.. over charging alternator , battery dead.
One person did add the wires off the alternator are exposed to the elements and this is what was causing him issues so he replaced them and all was fine.
The car was at PMW last week but they never put it on star as it was a visual issue that's been fixed.
The car is 90% there. Come on I want to own a fully functioning W220 apart from this. The car is great and drives wonderfully.
Any advice or experiences shared appreciated. I'm driving the wife nuts taking about alternators, batteries and auto wiring!
*** just to add I leave the car in the raised position airmatic, it's not sinking or making any funny noises but a few times go to start the shock convenience settings button is lit up to I turn this off.maybe trigging the batt warning? Some times ok sometimes batt warning light. I know the W220 is a electrical technical haystack. Praying for a easy fix.
TIA
Michael
