Reflection Shots

My vote goes to M2287 as I had to think twice and three times to determine which side the car was on!

When I look at this image all I see is orange peel, which is all I see when I look at my SL. The more shiny I make it, the worse the orange peel seems to stand out. Compared to the Ghibli in the original post it's not good Mercedes.

Has the black S55 in this thread been wet sanded or had paint correction?

Anyhow our incoming car which I should be seeing in May has been painted Orange, so if that has as much orange peel as the SL at least it will be ironic.

It looks fine to me?

It's one of those things in life that once it's pointed out to you, you can't unsee it.

I wish it had never been pointed out to me as it bugs me.

Look at the reflection of the garage door, the lines are rippled, that's caused by an peel effect on the paint.

Last time I was at MB World there some true paint shockers on the showroom floor. Dark colours seem to show it more.

I'm taking nothing away from the car - it's a paint thing from the factory and it's entirely random, some cars are just worse than others.

The s55 is tanzanite blue, it hasn't been wet sanded... just washed, Clay bar, polished with 3M fast cut and then Collinite 476 to finish

No filters or trickery on the photos, they were taken with an iPhone 6!

Life's far to short to worry about 'orange peel' or swirl marks. it's a daily driver not a museum piece.

Actually I agree, I considered getting the SL wet sanded and I might actually do it once I've moved and can garage it. Whilst it lives outside and under a car cover it would be a daft exercise, but it's not a daily driver.

It bugs me they leave the factory like this to start with, these aren't cheap cars. Particularly when you see it on some new AMG's that are north of £100K.

The only Mercedes in a showroom I saw without orange peel was a GT R

When I received my car I didn't see much orange peel, then after I'd polished and waxed it, the orange peel accentuated. I thought they had applied a special factory coat to mask the orange peel / filler which I'd polished off.

Some great results on show!

Mercedes and BMW are not the best when it comes to orange peel and there really is no excuse for it!

Anything from the VAG group is finished so much better straight out of the factory!

The first pic the reflection was so good I didn't realise the car was even in it

What he said, it played so many tricks with my eyes. I thought it was a highly polished railway line running down a gulley or something. Superb shot and finish to the car.

Edit.

If you had cropped the wing mirror and its reflection out of it I would never have twigged.

My van.. although old and chipped (paint) it still comes up well:thumb:

That has to be the cleanest van around!!

Most of them have 'Clean me' or 'I wish my wife was as filthy as this' scrawled into the dirt. Haha

Well glossy, what do you use on the paintwork?
