Ok I have been looking around to get my wheels Refurbed and some of the prices have been putting me off, I know there are some cheapo companies out there but worried about the workmanship, decent ones and ones who come highly rated are well just a tad expensive for me at the moment (The Bank manaager (wifey) has other plans).

I have had my wheel in the garage for a few months and now i just want them on the car, so I am contemplating on refurbing them my self.

I went to halfrauds to see what kit is available and there was only 1 which was there own brand for £29.99.

If it turns out crap ill just save the money and get em done properly, if they turn out decent then it would be the best £30 I have sent.

Now my questions are
1) is it easy to refurb Alloy wheels
2) has anyone refurbed there own wheels and can you give any tips/ step by step guide.
3) whats the best kit if any for refurbishing

OR should I just save up slowly and get em done properly

Find a reputable firm to do it properly. Lepsons have an excellent reputation. In my opinion avoid the mobile refurbishers. They just dont get the same results. DIY is very difficult to get a really good finish that lasts.

I used Lepsons Gillingham to refurb my 18" AMG alloys last month.

Excellent quality.

They did leave dirty finger marks on my roof lining .. which was annoying, but easily cleaned off

I refurbed my own wheels last year, It took about a week of filling(metallic metal filler),sanding and spraying and they did look great when they were finished but they only lasted about 8 months before brake dust started to eat into the lacquer.I used good quality undercoat and a high silver flake particle spray which seemed a bit too soft after id finished them, maybe I didnt use enough lacquer.

Would i do it again? It kept me busy for a week and i like doing this sort of thing but no not again.I had them all blasted and powdercoated for about £200 ish.Not as nice a finish as the OEM silver but fairly close.

Cost me £295 for 5 wheels at wheel at Pristine in Woburn Sands. I have done them myself in the past, but frankly I don't think it is worth the bother.

AMG mono 2`s, definately get them done properly, and its criminal not to get the lip re-done in the diamobd cut finish. IMO AMG mono 2`s (esp the 18`s) are one of the best wheels made by MB.

dont go the halfords route.

Thanks guys for the input, the wheels I have are in the link below

I think they are the polished lip type, will this need special treatment when refurbing and after refurbing.
or shall I simple ask to get them done the same colour without having a polished lip that way i wont have to worry about and corrosion on the polished lip.

yes agree they look very very sweet. Thank guys i will look into these refurb companies.
Having read peoples guides hints an dtip on the net it sounds like a job and woudl be better off getting them done professionally.

Very nice job indeed and I like the two tone colour. Impossible to get that kind of quality refurbish (better than new IMO) here unfortunately, and if it was possible, I can't imagine the price I would have to pay.... I'll have to get my 17" done some time as there are some scruff marks on them. Also thinking of going to 18" but always in AMG II rims :thumb:

Monoblocks are the only wheels that look good on a W202 IMHO.

I had a set of Lorinser LO's refurbished over here in Australia.

Through a mate who works with a V8 supercar team I got them re-rolled, xrayed for stress fractures, polished, the hole pattern painted then completely clearcoated. $200AUS per rim.

Thanks,

Here is my next set of rims for the refurb-AMG Penta WB 16x9+16x10

that will be for a track car I'm thinking of building based on this.

I will need era specific rims and wide BBS Mahle rims in 16x9+ are impossible to get. [and I love WB Pentas:D]

Either way IMO if you have any original rims it's well worth investing the money to get them back to as close to perfect condition as possible.
