Sorry about this but I need to know if anyone knows how to tell from the new style number plates, where the vehicle was first registered.

Thanks Guys

The new style does have very rough area coding, but the person that thought it up lives on a different planet to the rest of us.

The first two letters denote area, the two numbers the year and part of that year, the last three letteres are purely random.

Regards,
John

Edit:
Here is the link http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/reg_marks_memorytags.htm

Thanks John, I just need to know how to get the area from the first two letters then, any ideas.

As far as I know the DVLA website has all the answers somewhere within it. The full URL, unfortunately, I do not have to hand.

Portzy.

To explain in better detail.

The West country is represented by the first letter 'W'

Then it is broken down into another three areas all beginning with W but the second letter tells you where in the West country.

Exeter area which is really the whole of Devon A B C D E F G H J
Truro Which is Cornwall K L
Bristol Places in the West country?? other than Devon and Cornwall M N O P R S T U V W X Y

I hope that helps,
John

If you see my link right beneath the first message it includes queries you have politely pointed out and indeed other areas.

My home village is just 15 miles North of Peterborough so we know that area exists!! :D

Have a really nice day,
John
Sunny, hot Torquay
