My 2 yr PCP is coming to an end in 4 weeks and I need to take my number plate off before it goes back.....

Is it more expensive to put a plate on retention (£80) and then transfer it to my wife's car (what does it cost to do this)? or is it cheaper to transfer it immediately?

If I do it online will 4 weeks be enough time to do this?

Many thanks
Mark

You can do the retention online now for £80. There isn't a cheaper or quicker way to do it. You'll get your new log book in about 3 days and can put the plate on a new car instantly with the code they give you without having to wait for the log book

and on retention now lasts 10 years until 2015 BTW, no more renewal £25 PER ANNUM

Just done that today. It is almost instantaneous.

Thank you everyone. Did it this afternoon and was amazed how quick and easy the process was! I had been warned by Merc' finance it could take upto 6 weeks! It was instant

Bloody DVLA and their inefficiency.

Yes, all this instantaneous stuff online is too slow!

What happened to queueing in the post office for 20 mins or driving for 40 mins to the local DVLA office to queue for 1 hour!

Those were the days!

None of the dealers or traders seem to have a clue it can be done online now, seems pretty scary.

Took my plate off my car in minutes last week, and will put it on my new (to me) C63 next week... in minutes!

Very impressive service.

I tried to transfer my plate online and it wouldn't let me...said to call in...did that and apparently if there is a gap at any point in the cars licensing history then you still have to send all the documents into the DVLA.....
