Remap and insurance.

Taxis are hardly a target market for tuning though and you have specialist insurance policies.

If you owned a car that had been re-mapped and were not aware of it the onus of proof may be on you but the date a re-map was written to the ECU would usually would traceable by someone experienced in mapping.
taxis are a very high on the list for re mapping due to fuel cost savings

It mght be worth asking first, without necessarily giving them your details, ie just a general question.. I say that because a friend fitted some 'improved' parts (only larger/vented discs) and then advised his ins company. Despite being a long-time customer, response was 'sorry, we don't offer cover if any modifications from standard spec'. End of discussion.

You will as people have expressed get a whole range of results depending on the insurer, car, modifications and general risk profile.

Some will refuse to cover cars with an modifications, some will charge, others won't. Most of the cars I have had with modifications I have used specialist brokers rather than the large insurers, but those have been more than just a remap.

Usually a call with an I am considering doing X, what would be the impact on the premium if I did will give you the answer. Just be sure that you haven't already done those modifications as it will be flagged and if you had an accident be checked for. You could of course wait until renewal time and price it up then.

I often used price in changes I planned to make throughout the year so that I didn't get administration charges when I did them. Insurers seemed happy with this approach.

You bring this to some conclusion. I've just spoken my insurer, Aviva, about cost increase on a Celtic tuning remap, they've come back with £48 for the year, or an additional £4/month.

That's excellent. It may reduce your options when shopping around in future though as some companies will apply a bigger weighting, or even decline to quote.

NFU ok with remaps, a small extra charge annually
