I only have 2 months left on my current insurance with Tesco, I got my Mercedes on Tuesday and my insurance went up from £69 p/m from my Fiesta to £97 p/m for the remaining 2 months.

I thought I would ask what the increase would be if I were to get a remap, they do it on % increase, which would be 23.3% for my 150bhp C220 according to Angel Tuning, the fun part came when Tesco told me that it would cost me £186 p/m for the next 2 months if I did it

It's another way of saying that they don't want to do it. Tesco are not in the market for unusual or modified cars.

Similarly, insure your modified car with a specialist but don't expect the specialist to necessarily be competitive on an unmodified car.

It's horses for courses.

So, now's the time to get other quotes, and then do the remap when you've got something more reasonable in place in 2 months time.

Yep had this with the Scooby. Tesco, albeit they needed a tracker, cheap as chips standard. When i moved i got the usual "You've left us, why? can we lower the quote?" I just said I'd modified the car and the bloke went "fair enough" and hung up. The don't do modified but plenty do. Try Adrian Flux, Sky Insurance etc and see what happens.

Maybe a question for Primo. How do you declare remaps which are not tested on a rolling road? I gather the premium may change depending on the % increase.

For individually rated cars I don't believe anyone has a premium loading scale. It may be 25% one day and 50% on another. I would make a strong argument that you are: mature / very experienced / claim and conviction free. The better the risk the less the load I would expect.

Proper multi vehicle policies (as apposed to the Admiral multi vehicle discount) are different and you possibly wouldn't pay anymore at all.

Hope this helps.

I called my broker before having my remap. He called the insurance company, knows the guys there, and told them I'm having a remap to increase the economy of the car. They said fine, they will note it and that there would be no increase in premium.
Worth using a good broker who knows the insurance companies.

That is a good tip, I need to find myself a good broker now then

I could NEVER, EVER recommend Adrian Flux as a broker.

If you want to read some true horror stories, go to 'Club80-90.co.uk' and read away. Although I have never needed to claim on an insurance policy in over 24 years of driving, those who did, would go out of their way to steer you well clear of AF.
