Mercedes CLS 350d AMG C Class 220 CDI AMG
Hi all, not posted for a while but back to a Mercedes. I have just bought a 2018 CLS 350d, great car 254 bhp and comfy, love the car. Thinking of having it remapped which I believe takes it up to almost 300bhp and an increase in fuel efficiency of up to 15%. has anyone ever had this done and is it worth it? I love the power I have but just want a bit more MPG

Cheers

Different sites, some say up 10 15%, some say 8-12%

You will probably get 300 bhp, but 15% better fuel economy is cobblers, do get it mapped though, it's brilliant. :) 👍

Best to let us know who you are thinking about using as they're not all the same .

Decent remap will see you gain 313 to 330bhp with torque ranging from 700 to 750nm.

On dyno mine was tuned to 319bhp and 718nm of torque delivered over a wider rpm range.

I did not map it for economy.

Be careful who you choose.

Absolutely.

IMO waste of time mapping if hoping for better fuel economy.

Get an idea from your insurance company how much extra it will cost you.
Some may not even entertain a remap.

Thanks guys I will prob leave it, nice car as it is :)

If you take it to a main dealer for servicing after the remap, they may do a software update, quite possibly without being asked and without telling you, which will wipe the update. An idie won't do that.

I have an MSL remap on my 2013 CLS350 Shooting Brake, actually using a Big Fish Tuning map but set up on the MSL rolling road, which gives 322hp and 530 lb.ft. I've not actually seen the dyno chart, but I rang Big Fish to check if those figures are achievable, and they told me that with no hardware changes 330 bhp/530 lb.ft. is about the limit. I'd be wary of claims to extract more.

I had the same engine in a 2014 E350 CDI with a TDI tuning box on it, and they claim 329 bhp and 530 lb.ft. The CLS feels noticeably stronger than the E350 did.

When my E63 went in for a main dealer service last year, I was specific that no software updates were to be done on the engine ECU due to the MSL/Big Fish remap I'd had done.
The instruction was written on the service sheet immediately.

Any remap or tuning box fitted without a before and after dyno run is open to BS claims.
And don't always go with who can give you the biggest gain because with turbo charged cars they just winding up the boost as much as they can. Better to do go with a well-known place that knows the limits and tolerance of a particular manufacturer like MSL for Mercs

The key is how the power is delivered.

It’s genuinely worth a phone call to allay any fears, as any decent tuners seem happy to chat. I had a great chinwag with Will at GAD as obviously I had some second thoughts about do I, don’t I. I was happy enough with what he said to book.
