Is it possible to code merc keys to other mercs easily enough?? I have my 2005 C Class but only one key, however i have a collection of keys from other mercs circa same year and thought would try and code one of them to my car.......Cheers...

apparently totally impossible, much to my annoyance too !!

Foooook, how come the keys sell on ebay then if they have no use other than to the car to which they were originally coded??

Sold by unscrupulous swine - check out the disclaimers on every site selling them - people will buy them (only once though) only to find they've wasted their money.

The only source of a new key is the MB dealer - you require passport, driving licence (and probably now a retinal scan) before they will order for you at which point they will relieve you of about £220.

I've been round the loop (stopped short of buying on Ebay) because mine only came with one key which gives me an uncomfortable feeling, despite never having lost one before.

cant be done, sorry!

PS - "unscrupulous swine" isn't the precise phrase I would nromally use, but too new to this forum to know what one can get away with !! :D

there's obviously money to be made going by the number doing it !!:crazy:

Probably because it is so strange that it cant be done!! I had BMWs, Audis, Porsches and they all code easily, in fact most you can code partly yourself and then the final bit needs doing by stealer and you order the key blade direct from stealers...... :wallbash:

Im surprised you got away with unscrupulous swine!! :D

Fool , if you have a spare key like a w208 key , i'll buy it off you ...

You can swap the innards over easy enough , my key is completely donald , buttons cracked and everything ...

If you have a good quality one , with intact buttons , let me know how much you want for it please

Makes a good point - the Ebay ones can be used an donors if you crack the case or the buttons fail - just swap the guts!

Trouble is , people bid them into orbit thinking they can reprogram them when in reality all you can do with them is swap the case .

But if your case is split or a button has failed then the Ebay option beats £200+ for a new one (plus all the faffing).

The buttons are the same , you use the existing internal button , if it has failed on the internal then you have no choice but a new one.

People think they can reuse the electronics on the Ebay ones .

They think 'Oh , it's two hundred quid for a new key from MB , if can get that one on Ebay for £50 and reprogram it , i'm £150 in pocket ' .... then realise that they can't reprogram it...

So then the ( useless ) keys get bid up to silly money , when they are worth a tenner tops.

Has anyone else seen those chinese machines that claim to reprogramme the DAS system? They look mickey mouse - are they a scam too??

yes, the ak400, currently listed on ebay for £400 ish. these claim to program the keys by infrared, but i would expect the chips to need flashing at the very least. i too would love to know if they work.
