Remote key.

Hi!.....Does anyone know of the best place to buy a new remote key for a w202 c280. Both my keys have failed on me! I just called my local MB dealer in Canterbury and was a bit shocked when they told me it'd be £95. So, anyone know if i can get any cheaper? Thanks

I don't know what year your one is but I paid £82 few months ago including VAT. The key is for a 1996 so it may be different if yours is post facelift. BTW I got mine from Mercedes in Maidstone.

Ok, cheers for that Chris. Mines a 97. Not sure if its facelift or not, its a straight 6 engine, but has flick style key. Ill keep looking for a better deal until weekend i think. Cheers!

I just went through the same ordeal to get one for the Pug. Search on e-bay for "Mercedes remote" and you'll get a handful - this one is only 17.50 and he says it fits the C Class... Ebay

If its anything like the pug, you can buy the metal blank for £10 + VAT and get it cut and re-programmed for another £20 - should save yourself a little.

EDIT - Just seen blank key plates on e-bay for £5

When I had my new key it was ordered specifically for the car using the Vin Number and I had to show proof of ownership,Then took about 3 days to come from germany.So I doubt very much

Some Auto Locksmith Can also Programme the Fob for you.

that anyone could do this job.My flip key was about £52.

ahh yeah thats good idea. ill have a look on ebay tonigh then i think. Yeah they told me i had to take drivers license and v5 down before they can order. So expensive tho, just for a key!

Couldnt i just use the old key, intead of getting blank one and getting re-cut?

I've got one on order from Greenoaks in Bracknell. £52 for the key itself and £12 for the metal insert (including VAT).

Have you tried 're-syncing' them with the car?

Unless of course it's a mechanical failure, in which case I'll shut up!

Hi Stratman. Yes ive tried the re-sync thing. Didnt happen. Took car to MB specialist, who got a new rear view mirror for it, because he thought it was that , but still didnt work. So must be the key!
Anyway. I may be going to Germany at wekend to pick up a new guitar, so i was thinking if i do, i may pop into MB over there and get a new key myself. Do you think this is possible? And anyone know where id have to go for that? cheers
