Hey,

I'm after some advice please.

I'm thinking of installing this:No Holes Parking Sensor | Parking Dynamics Reverse Sensor

By doing this (removing the rear bump strip and installing on the bump strip itself: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/65240-new-reversing-sensors-fitted.html

This picture shows that the CLK has a rear bump strip, is it moulded, or can it be removed?

Thanks

if anyone could please let me know, I'd really appreciate it, as I need to know before spraying it.

Thank you!

its a push fit, but not that easy to remove, you will need a few plastic tools to avoid damage to the bumper/trim.

I looked at those PD1 systems, and a few seemed to say that the strip has adhesion issues so you should ask around for opinions before you decide

Cheers Mark.

The post i linked to, seemed to use gaffa tape 9or similar) to ensure adhesion, I think i'll do the same.

generally the reports seem good.

My only issue is whether to go for the visual kit or not.

I still think you will be better off removing the whole bumper, your going to have less work in the long run

Any tips on how to do that?

I don't really want to deal with rusted bolts/screws which could be an issue.

If you nip down to your local MBdealershp parts department ask them to print off the assembly drawings which will highlight all the fixings you need to tackle when removing the rear bumper, that or Bumber inserts. I get some spare fixings from them anyway if it were me, its only going to be a couple of quid.

I'd be interested how you get on with the Parking sensor unit as the MB OEM unit, retro fitted and color coded etc they're asking £3K+ on my CLK  MB said they have to replace the AMG rear Valance because apparantly it wont except retro fitment of the parking sensors. Then its fitment of the LED display and that means all manner of extra cost blah blah blah.

Needless to say I got bored and didn't go ahead with it.

yes once the bumpers are off you'll be able to pop the bump strip off, drill your holes and pop it back on.

it is possible to remove them without removing the bumper but, as above, you risk more damage to the bumper. plus for a neat installation, the bumper is probably best off anyway to route the wiring better etc
