Hi,
ML400cdi 2003 mod.
First problem not solved with the help of this board therfore first posting, did the search and found all the info on removing the rear spring/shock units, seemed to be straightforward but, how do i get the plastic covers that protect the strut mounting nuts on the top of the strut off, they are hard up against the underside of the floor, i dont want to destroy them because they are there for a reason, do i have to seperate the body from the chassis, its the only way i can see to get enough clearance, or have i missed something.
Any help welcome.
Mark.

Guy at work recently changed his father in laws left rear spring unit and he used a ratchet spanner to get the top nuts.

Hi
Thanks for the info, the problem is that the top of the plastic cap is in contact with the underside of floor of the truck, hence there is no room to lever/lift it off, does it slide off?

I see that on another forum you were advised to just lever it off! If you don't have access/clearance I guess some strategic cuts with a hacksaw blade to remove the cover may be necessary. the problem then might be enough clearance to get at the nuts? A picture might bring some more suggestions>> If the body is flexibly mounted to the chassis could the clearance be increased slightly temporarily by raising the body slightly on its mountings without detaching it completely? not familiar with this model unfortunately. I guess its possible the mounts have "sagged" a bit over the years?
