Hi, just picked up a lovely ML500, but it has the spare wheel carrier on the rear. Now with two kids I need the boot a lot for their junk and the wheel carrier is becoming a hassle to open to get to the tailgate.

I've started to investigate removal but will need to sort the wiring out for the number plate light on the tailgate.

Knowing MB, I'm hoping that there is somewhere I simply unplug one connector from the carrier and plug it into one for the tailgate and the job is done (apart from removing the metalwork).

Any pointers appreciated before I end up taking too much apart.

Thanks

Neil

Can't help sorry, but if you are thinking of moving it on I could be interested (depending on price of course, mine is in for repair atm and not sure of final bill so things cound be tight lol )

Good luck with the removal :thumb:

Dissapointed with the lack of response, I'll have to try one of the other MB forums :fail

has any body had a spare wheel carrier got stuck in the closed position on a ml 270 cdi. how do you open it if it is stuck the handle moves but will not open

Get a screwdriver in and release the clip where it goes on to the locking post.

Might have to wiggle it in a bit.
