Removing the engine cover - W.209

I'd like to take a look at the engine on my W.209 CLK500, but unclipping the engine cover has defeated me! There's nothing wrong with it, I'm just nosy.

I can unclip the front part, but am desperately worried about breaking clips on the larger bit.

Am I missing some secret somewhere, or do I just need to apply a bit more force?

just pull it firmly upwards. Its on rubber mounts.
