Went to replace the buses and drop links tonight, the torx bolt holding the drop links in came straight out, went to undo the two smaller reverse torx bolts holding the metal surround holding the bushes in and they just wont come out, rounded one of them. Then got my father in law nagging in my ear that I was an idiot (its his garage, I sell clothes and footwear :D ) and grabbed the tools and then rounded the other one.

Any ideas?? Do they usually get stuck in there??

could you not hammer a larger one in to try to get purchase? The vibration may well loosen the bolt as well ?

They don't usually cause problems. Good avdice above^^^

lol, they normally end up breaking the torx bit, never managed to round one off though... the only way now would be a strong set of mole grips around th e bolt... and i mean good mole grips with sharp teeth.

These are reverse torx bolts, so they need a torx socket, it is part 23....

They just seem far too small and soft to be doing that job.

I will probably weld on a proper bolt head and get them out.

As mentioned, just beat a smaller socket on and the shock will free them off.
They aren't too small, they never failed in service.

Will do.

I'm sure they will never fail, just seems a strange choice.

Do Merc use a lot of this type of bolt?? Are they the same size? Just thinking whether I should order a load.

The bolts do somtimes snap. I have had that happen on a few occasions.

You could of course give in and let Father in Law do it.:D

They have loctite on them. You may have to give them a warm up with a gas torch

I have had to cut though the carrier (Item 20 from drawing above), freeing the roll bar, than welding a bar to the protruding stud. A little extreme I know but it works.
