My black 500E, now the recipient vehicle for the Renntech 6.3 M119 and 6-spd manual, also has a host of other Renntech items waiting for it.

One of those is the Renntech backbox, a 500E specific item.

Now my black 500E already had a Remus 500e specific backbox which sounded awesome. Cats still in place, but centre box removed for the excellent y-pipe connection before the rear box.

This morning, i decided to start the Renntech goodies fitment and fitted up the backbox.

The 3 bolts connecting the backbox to the Y-pipe had rusted nuts that refused to budge...so i had to remove the entire piece from cats back, undoing the 4 bolts at that point. The 2.5" twin piping on a w124 never designed at source for a V8 means things are very tight.... . What should have been a 30 min job ended up taking 3x times as long ! And not allowing for rsuted nuts, i did it on the floor under a trolley jack rather than doing it on my lift !!! What a dope ! :o

Once all off the car, i ground out the rusted nuts and hooked up the Renntech box, then lined it all up on the car and bolted her back up again. Interestingly, both the Remuc and Renntech single pipe leading back to Y-pipe is a 3-inch python !

Now my fear was that with the Remus sounding SO good (and Jay can testify to that), would this Renntech end up dissapointing me.

Turned the key and OMG ! OMFG ! Wow.....AWESOME sound, rip-roaring V8 music ! And this with the cats in place !!! Legally, this car does not require the cats. I have a set of w124 E60 cats which i will fit in place of the stock MB cats that are there at the moment.

Below is a link to a vid i took....the car has to be heard to be believed ! Absolutely perfect sound, Renntech got it spot-on !!

Other Renntech goodies awaiting the car are:

- Renntech anti-roll bar (32mm)
- Renntech airbox (designed to increase airflow)
- Renntech ducktail spoiler (carbon copy of the w124 AMG version)
- Renntech 6.3 M119 and 6 spd manual gearbox (arriving April time)

I'll be fitting different wheels too....current set are the 2-piece SL AMG alloys by BBS. I might either fit 3-piece OZ Racing Futuras, or their sister wheel, the AMG 3-piece staggered set (8+9 instead of 8+10). Centre color coded 040 black of course.

The Remus is in great condition and i've put it safely aside for the 500E that i hope to buy in April. Amazingly, it still has the Remus sticker intact which gives it's full spec, starting with 'w124 500E (240kw)'......great stuff !

Pics below as well. Sorry, filthy car, needs a mighty clean !

Awesome stuff Talbir, yes it sounds like a BEAST!

Abit of a shame that your butchering up this mint original 040 500E up for the RennTech conversion, however I guess it saves you selling it and kissing goodbye to it!

I'm gonna have to shoot another video of this....something happened yesterday !

Went for a drive for the first time since fitting on Saturday and kicked down to really open her up. The sound changed....it became ever more rip-roaring and burbly !

Must have been some gunk in the exhaust that cleared up on the Italian tune up ! It sounds even better now !

I was gonna remove the cats but won't do that....i'll fit the w124 E60 cats and stay green !

I also noted that the Renntech box was significantly lighter than the Remus application. Remus are known to be very heavy and do get through a fair amount of hangers !

All sprung weight so no real gain on the weight front, especially when the car itself weighs 1.8 tonnes !

Do you expect the sound to change as the miles are added, as the system 'beds in' ?

Do you have a picture of the Remus box?

I'm ordering a cat free front section for mine and will either order a new centre section and have a new backbox made with hidden tips or have a cat back system made.

Is it just the backbox and the rest is completely standard?

If so that sounds amazing, exactly the sound I want!

What is it like on a steady throttle?

Dave!

I'll take a pic and post up the picture, especially the label on it which specs the 500E application...gold dust this sort of stuff.

The system on the 500E i cats, then Y-pipe, then back box. Stock system has a centre box after the cats.

If you find a good back box like Remus or Renntech, then all you need do is remove the centre box. Removing cats will free up some horses, but will also reduce backpressure as well.

Beauty of this Renntech is that at idle and steady throttle it's not intrusive at all....it's when you rev that you get the super soundtrack ! Believe it or not, i was driving with the window down despite the freezing weather....

Ahh, I see.

I'm tempted to do the Y-Pipe mod but have heard it can cause resonance in the cabin at times. I did have a link to the makers of the Y-Pipe at some point? Though getting one made wont be too hard.

I definitely want rid of the cats, i'll keep them but the heat shielding is all starting to go and I have an inkling they are well past there best.

I'm not seeing an AMG logo on the baby seat...........Don't they make one ? :)

but taping 2 to the whaletail uses a lot of Ducktape surely!

Cheers Talbir

For some reason I thought they were square tips on the Remus box, not sure where I got that from though.
