Repeat indicators in mirrors

Front repeat indicator in the drivers mirror not working.
I have been told that the wires in the mirror can break after time, due to folding in and out.
What is it like to fix - a dealer, or something simple?

I had the exact samething in my ML which was indeed the wire crimped through by the folding mirror. Whilst the dealer paid for the fix I can say it was done while I waited so can't be that big a job.

on the E W211 it's not hard, although it is time consuming.

You can't buy the loom seperately and I found it difficult to repair the join. Using a guide on here I bought some 'flexible' wire from Maplin and soldered it in to the loom on the join. Took about 3 hours.
