Had a day out to Matlock Bath today and it started raining , oh bugger its the first time the old girls been wet since I bought her [apart from weekly wash] and lo and behold the wiper packed up after 5 minutes, also the washer as well. Thought it must be fuse so looked but seemed ok until I took it out and it had broken [not blown]. Got me thinking some of the fuses might be 15 years old so I'm going to replace the lot. Matlock Baths ok though, went up on the cable car to the old lead mines, visited the old Victorian baths and petrifying well. Back in the real world now though [Barnsley]

>>and it had broken [not blown]

Yes, I had exactly the same - the fuse for the imobiliser broke, and I couldn't easily start the car to come home from work. A full set of new fuses have, so far, prevented any repetition.

Apparently, sealed glass/ceramic fuses are available in US which have a much longer life - I don't know if they're available in the UK, but, I confess to having a much less than perfect knowledge of the fuse market!

Do you mean with festoon ends or plain caps. I've never seen any with festoon ends, but standard fuses are available in glass.

Have looked on E Bay and what look like same as mine are called torpedo/continental but they are about £4 for a bag of 20 mixed amp values. Going to look for some better quality ones

Do they have to have the festoon caps.?

Nor have I - all the continental fuses I've ever seen have been ...., well, continental fuses, but, apparently there is something better available. I got the info from a respected contributor (particulalry on the subject of W124 electrics) to the American mercedes shop site.
