Replacement key cost?

I still believe you were bent over, even with 1.5hrs diagnosis for a new key. What addons could they charge you with?
You paid over £600 for someone to fail to remove a key battery, and a new key is always sent from Germany for well under £300 already pre programmed.
Too late now but I wouldn't have let that rest with me.
Agreed Rog, when I asked MB here they quoted me under £200 IIRC for a new key, comes preprogrammed as you mentioned…!

Is it safe to use an one of these key cloners? Could they potentially save your key file and program another key to sell to someone else who might want to borrow your car?

You only seem to save 80£ or so. Not that a saving of £80 is to be sniffed at but is peanuts in comparison for the hassle of a missing car.

Depends on the nature of your motor. If it’s a £5k diesel, not much of a risk. If it’s £25k worth living in a rural idyll, hardly a problem. A new urban SUV parked on the road? Probably foolish

I bought my 15 plate W205 from what was Imperial Cars, now "Cazoo", I also took out their service plan. I took the car to them for its regular service and MOT and left my key with them. A couple of hours after I had got home they phoned me to ask if I had left the key with them as they couldn't find it, I assured them that I had left the key with one of their Sales/Service colleagues at reception. I had to go back to them with the spare key to be told that the person I had left the key with had lost it, but not to worry as they would source a replacement. I collected the car after the service/MOT and they (Cazoo) had contacted Exeter Mercedes-Benz to get a new key and fob both of which had to come from Germany after the blank had been cut according to the file code. They then informed me that the car had to be taken to the main dealer to have the new fob programmed to my vehicle and the old fob deleted from the vehicle management system, all of this was at Cazoo's expense, which was just over £500 all in. My car now goes into the main dealer for service/MOT. The last time it went in the courtesy car was a C300 AMG line Premium on a 24 plate, with Cazoo I was lucky if it was a Ford Fiesta!
