Replacing Audio 20 in E220 Cdi by RSS

Hi guys, I saw a post going back to 2010 [?] by RSS describing how the Audio 20 was changed in his E220. I would like to get a bit of clarification on the change-over if RSS is still on-line. I notice that there was a post from him about two months ago, so maybe I can source his information again. Mainly I am looking for information regarding the Audio part or model numbers and whether it matters. I have been given some horror stories by various Mercedes garages about how much / how difficult it is going to be, and I need to bring the car into a dealer to get the radio changed. The light has gone off in the display and I asked a friend who has a garage what he thought, his answer was brief - change the radio. I have been offered a brand new unit, MF2770, which looks identical to mine but, again courtesy of Mercedes, no I couldn't use it because it probably won't work ! When I asked which one would work I wasn't given an answer except "bring the car in and then we will tell you ". If RSS is still reading the posts perhaps he could drop a reply. Any other information would be gratefully received.
