My control unit has packed up, so have no radio, sat nav or blue tooth phone. My independent Merc garage says the control unit has packed in. I've found one on a well known bidding site. My question is, if I put another one in, does it need programming to the car or will it work straight away (like plug & Play)?

Car is 2014 C-Class S204

Thanks

Hi
It will probably need coding as I'm sure when you fit it it will come up with theft protection on the display as the car knows this unit wasn't the original
Be very careful alot of stolen or cars that have been written off have these units sold via auction sites and the pins number is needed to unlock them

There are places that specialise in repairing BMW Nav units so there may be people that specialise in MB Nav units. If repaired it will not lose its coding.

Was thinking this route as an alternative, but can't seem to find anyone who might be able to repair it.

Welcome.

1. www.comandonline.co.uk is the go-to place for all things COMAND. They can also offer second-hand units, or non-MB alternatives.

2. A second-hand unit will only work if it is supplied with the anti-theft code. The anti-theft code can only be read when the unit is still in the donor car. If the unit has been removed from the donor car and the anti-theft code not noted, it's a brick...

3. If buying a second hand unit you'll still (most likely) need to update the firmware and the maps. Firmware update requires STAR, maps update does not require STAR but requires the purchase of a PIN code.

4. Look-up 10.25" Android for W204 facelift.

Just spoke to Comand, gave a couple of alternatives 1. They supply and fit unit including software and map upgrades to latest with warranty. 2. I supply unit and they can fit it and programme it. BUT if it's stolen I've lost it!

Looked at Android facelift. Really don't like the look of them.

Comand UK carried-out COMAND retrofits on two of my cars (among other things they retrofitted) and did an amazing job - highly recommended.

Gonna make an appointment with comand. Better to be safe than sorry. Thanks all for your help.
