Replacing rear number plate led

I was about to go ahead and change one of the rear number plate lights on my 2012 W212 when I just checked WIS to be sure I knew how to do the job, however I have come across a note in wis which states "112 IMPORTANT: FLASH REAR SAM AFTER EXCHANGING PART" code 802/803/804 - why the heck do I need to flash the rear sam if I change a bulb? does anyone know what will happen if I don't?

Just guessing, perhaps the new part has different wattage and the rear SAM needs to be prepared for that. Seems no version coding needed, the SAM would accept the old and the new part after flashing?
