Just wondering if anyone has done this using one with the same part number as I don't believe they are vin coded to car.
I have had everything else checked by my local indie including oil change and conductor plate, harness check up to transmission control unit.

He says he can't clear the code which is code 2064 (P0778) current and stored

"The internal electrical check of component y3/6y2 (shift control solenoid valve) has failed"
Which points to a open circuit but wiring check shows the correct impedence of between 4 and 8 ohms.

If this isn't possible where is the best place for testing and repair of the old unit.
Thanks for looking

Plug and play so long as the numbers match up.

Thanks very much, there doesn't seem to be a lot of info on swapping tcu's.

Right I have obtained an identical numbered tcu from ebay including software versions but it came out of a C220 and mine is a C320 which has a different final drive so it works ok when plugged in but gets to 3rd gear and goes into emergency mode as the speed of car against rpm in the gearbox dont match.I then stop and restart car and it does the same again so I think it needs reprogramming to suit my car.
Can anybody shed more info on this problem at all or suggest someone preferably in the Norwich area that can do this reprogramming?
It's probably the same as changing to a different final drive so you have to tell the tcu what ratio thr final drive is.

Here is an update
Drove the car to Auto Technic in Chedgrave just outside Norwich with the replacement tcu fitted as it stays in 3rd until you move the gear selector, got to garage and changed back to the original tcu which was faulty so they could extract the info from the eeprom then fit replacement tcu and recode it. took the code ok but for some reason they had to go online and SCN code it to get it to work properly, once that was done (1 hours labour) in does everything it should so I'm very pleased with the outcome as my local indie said it couldn't be done but I believe it has to be the latest version of Star to do it.
So to be plug and play it has to be the same part no and from the exact same model of car otherwise its SCN coding. Hope this helps someone out in the future.

Do it properly. Go to someone with Online Star Diagnosis (i.e fully supported, not a clone) and have them SCN code the TCU and it will then get the correct coding string and all will be fine. You won't need the old one (as of course in some cases it is completely failed)

Alfie (at Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk ) can do this, so can Mercedes dealers. I don't know of many else with up-to-date supported Star Diagnosis and online coding authorisation.
