Hey Guys I wanted to get you views on replica Alloys?

I have always brought original or brand named alloys for my cars but I have been looking around for a set of AMG II's and they a bit pricey.

I have seen various replica and copy alloys cheaper but I am not sure how strong or quality build they are compared to OEM AMG's, or are they just as good as originals but only cheaper?

My last 2 sets have been replica's.
1st set on a bmw
latst on my clk.

one thing to note would be the polished / machined finish wheels tend to loose their lacqure after a while.....but then again my last original merc wheels were much worse!

Some are good and some are bad, you just need to be a bit more careful where you buy them from. The chinese ones can be made badly, you want a set of replicas from Germany or Italy ideally, should be easy enough to get. They are pretty cheap from the USA as well......

I have only ever purchased replicas once, for my BMW 535i Sport many years ago - then again they were made by Rondel which is a manufacturer which produces alloys for BMW and Mercedes anyhow hence top quality.

If you have a supercar with supercar performance you may well worry about the alloy weighing a few grams more than the original lightweight racing magnesium alloy!

Wouldn't worry about it too much, replica wheels have moved on alot since the old days. :thumb:

I have always been in two minds about in replicas. Sometimes you wonder how the OEM alloys can be sold at such extravagant prices. The quality of replicas have come a long way in the last few years but you have to be careful.

I think one day I will get some but havent taken the plunge yet...........

If you go for replica's try and get some that have been made in Germany. I had two sets of AMG Monoblocks one set was manufactured by Intra, the other had no manufacturer stamped on it and was noticeably of lesser quality.

cheers guys for the views, The ones I had seen where made by a company called Intra from Italy im guessing they are ok.

how much cheaper should replica's be compared to OEM i have seen some 18's as low as £400 with tyres non staggered.
